DSCN0663The Ferrer Law Group is proud to announce the election of our own Lourdes Ferrer to President-Elect of the Weston Bar Association.

Our Inaugural Installation Dinner was held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Weston Hills Country Club. Mayor Daniel Stermer was present to swear in the Inaugural Board of

Directors and Officers of the Weston Bar Association.

Over 100 guests attended our very first Installation. We were pleased to welcome over 20 members of the Judiciary, including Chief Judge Peter Weinstein. Our Pledge of Allegiance was led by Board Member Harry Rosen, the first mayor of The City of Weston.
We were honored by the attendance of Sheriff Scott Israel, who was also our featured speaker. Sheriff Israel explained his goals for the Broward Sheriff’s Office and how they will benefit the residents of Broward County.

The success of the evening was a direct reflection of the energy and enthusiasm of the officers and directors of this newly formed association. The Weston Bar Association is led by a dedicated group of professionals who have been able to draw from their experience to make this association a success. The success of the evening was enhanced by the venue, the Weston Hills Country Club, which clearly went out of their way to ensure that it was an evening to remember.

Becker & Poliakoff and Katzman Garfinkel & Berger, law firms that specialize in community associations, are bulking up with new personnel and facilities to handle the effects of the recession.
Becker & Poliakoff recently leased office space in Miramar for a “collections and foreclosure center.” The firm hired 27 people, mostly paralegals and assistants, to handle increased volume at the center, which has 53 staffers, including seven attorneys.

“Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ve hit the peak of the troubles yet,” said Lourdes Ferrer, managing attorney at the center.

The office includes all the attorneys, paralegals and staff who assist condominium and homeowner associations dealing with nonpayment of assessments – helping them more easily compare notes.“We’re taking a much more aggressive stance in foreclosures,” Ferrer said. “No longer can associations listen to attorneys saying they should wait for banks to foreclose. It just takes too long.”
